So, garden food for The Good Life. We try to make a huge portion of our food be in the form of raw vegetables. In the summer, this is an easy task. We have made it easier by making our salads in the garden. No fuss, no mess, no counters to clean! A few years ago we cut down a really great cedar tree that was in our garden making shade where we want the sun to shine. I was so sad about cutting down the tree, it reminded me of when I was young and my great grandpa was having a tree cut from his farm and my aunties and greandma were all sad about it, I thought ‘how stupid to be sad about a tree’, but now I get it.
Well, Isaac turned the tree stump into a little garden table, we put an umbrella on it and keep a bucket under it for our compost, but if lots of lettuce and carrot tops or whatever fall on the ground, no big D. And it’s right by the faucet so cleaning the vegis is a cinch. There is actually a power wash option where we just put our garden basket full of root vegetables under the hose and BLAST. No scrubbing needed. Simplify, simplify, simplify! The perfect vegi prep area. I got a big, clear plastic food storage container from Cash n Carry a while back, and that’s what we keep our salads in. It works way better that a round bowl for our fridge, a real space saver! 🙂
Above are some pictures of this great salad making invention/idea that I’m sure no one else in the whole world has ever thought of. (It was actually all the husband’s idea, none of mine.)
