So, I am really trying to get organized with what we’ll be doing for the kids’ school this year. We will be doing Monday class, so that will make Kyler’s (9th grade) easier for me. He will be taking Physics and Honors English there. The other kids are just doing some enrichment there, nothing I can ‘count’ as academia. I have all the Enki stuff for Maya, but I’m just not sure about it. I really like the theory behind it, but blending it with KK and Kyler’s routines seems. . . . nearly impossible. I am looking into Oak Meadow and some K12 stuff. I may need more structure than I thought as that will help to keep us on track, even if it’s loosely on track! I never want book learning to take the place of valuable real life experience, but there is a place for ritualistic book learning, and for my family, if it’s not part of a structure, I’m afraid we just don’t get to it often enough. For the younger grades, it’s ok, we can learn math and reading as we go along, but not that my middle is in 6th (oh my!) grade, it’s time to get to work!
We are super eclectic. I’ve read up on so, so many homeschool styles and practiced for a time all of the following: Unit Study (KONOS) – we did one sememster of this and LOVED it, it was just so fun, we did the Kings & Queens/Obedience unit. Classical Learning – Well Trained Mind. English – Shirley English, Math – Teaching Textbooks, History – Story of the World, Science – a mix. This is what we have done the most of and it keeps us on track but gets mundane for me. I like to plan fun stuff!; K12 – we’ve done quite a bit of this, too. A boxed set of really good curriculum. I have American History A for KK right now and we will probably keep with that. So, I will be mixing and matching from what I’ve done for the past 7 years and coming up with our new plan, hopefully this week! We are concentrating so much on Family Rhythm and will be working that into whatever we choose.
