Oak Meadow

I’m really excited because I am expecting to get our new Oak Meadow curriculum in the mail next week!  I ordered the first and sixth grades for my 2 youngest.  I have been researching and thinking about how to make our days flow all together a bit better.  This can be a challenge with an elementary aged child, a middle schooler and a high schooler!  It was easier when they were all younger, but now they are just in such separate phases.  I am really finding that KK is transitioning into a new awareness of his world.  He’s starting to connect the dots.  Like putting different facets of what we have learned/experienced in the past and putting it all together.  I’m really feeling proud of him right now.  He’s working hard on his penmanship and has started READING FOR PLEASURE!  This is huge!  We have been very mellow with him, reading out loud the books that he’s interested in, reading together his school work and suddenly he loves to read all on his own!  This feels like a SUCCESS!  I really wonder how it would be if we’d have forced him to sit and read and write for hours each day rather than read information to him and have him talk to us about it.  Now he is able to read, talk about it and then put it down on paper good order and he’s enjoying it!  Now, to work on his spelling!  I know reading will help with that, though.

So, here’s to allowing the elementary aged child be a little child and play and run and experience learning so they can enjoy learning as they get older!DSCN3759
