Day Five: (Monday 16th of December)
A long desert crossing. We woke up a little later than we had planned but were on our way by 7:30. The BIG SURPIRSE – waking to Orcas super close to our beach. Big beautiful Orcas just swimming and jumping in the waves. Kyler, Kaleb and I jumped out of bed and ran way down the beach to try to get a picture. They were truly magnificent!
We didn’t know how long of a day this would be as we were headed to Bahia De Los Angeles, a place we had never been. It’s a sleepy little fishing village on the Cortez side. We ended up getting in at about 3:00 and finding the sweet spot that our friend Kyle told us about. Kyle was at La Perla last year, where we camped for a few days. We met him and his cousin, Chuck, there. He taught the guys to do some spear fishing and we enjoyed a seafood feast together. We’ve since gotten in touch to try to meet up on this trip, he told us about this place and we found it yesterday! He is not here, but hopefully will be in the next day or so. I had originally told him we would be here around the 18th, but it’s the 16th. Maybe he left already or maybe he’s not here yet, we’ll see. The kids caught octopi and made a bit of a habitat for them. So fun. They can’t wait to go spear fishing in these rocky coves. This is a great, free remote camp that we will surely remember. I wonder how the wind will be?
So fun to read about your adventures! I love all the pictures too, and can’t wait to hear more. I can’t believe you got to see orcas, I’m sort of obsessed w them. Oddly enough, I had a dream last night about seeing some! Hopefully someday, take care and enjoy you time of “renewing” I live that!
